Aiki Method
The art of balancing yin and yang within the body – Aiki (合気)Method
How did the ancient physicians of East Asia treat illness in the body?
They began with the simplest principle they found in nature: Yin and Yang. The sun represents Yang energy. The earth represents Yin energy.
In the human body, Yang is the active, moving energy that defends us — fighting off viruses, bacteria, and other intruders. Yin is the nourishing energy we receive from food, sleep, and rest.
The ancient physicians believed that every living being holds within it a vital energy called Ki, and they evaluated the state of this Ki to understand and treat illness — even pain. Imagine a patient who keeps falling ill. The ancient physician would ask:
- Is her Yang protective energy (衛気, eki) — what we today call the immune system — strong enough?
- Is that protective energy stuck somewhere in the body, unable to circulate freely?
- Is she receiving enough Yin nourishment from her food?
- Is her food always cold, signaling that Ki circulation has become blocked?
From these questions, the physician knew how to treat.
Aiki Method
The Aiki Method follows three stages:
Assessment — We evaluate the state of the three foundational layers of the body: Shin (神, Spirit), Ki (氣, Vital Energy), and Ketsu (血, Blood, Organs, and Muscle).
Harmonization — We apply the Aiki Method to bring these three layers into balance with one another.
Cultivation — Through sustained practice, we build a body that is naturally resilient — one that maintains its own equilibrium.
